Time to sign up

The Marti Michell Block of the Month quilt program started September 1, sign ups will be accepted through September. This quilt uses Marti's Template Sets A and C for precise piecing on complex blocks. Paper templates are included in each month's block if you don't want to get the full template sets.  Classes will be available each month to try out the templates for those who haven't used them before.  Click here for more details.      

Beginning Quilting By Machine (next class will start in July)

Class Fee: $75 plus cost of supplies and any necessary tools

Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Machine with 1/4" inch foot
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • Fabric per project sheet (must be purchased at Annies Pretty Pieces)
  • 6"x12" ruler and 6"x24" ruler

Join the thousands of quilters who find peace and joy in what they make.  This class develops the basic skills needed to start quilting, working with a project that is easy, fun and finished when you walk out of the last session of the class.

Make a crib or lap quilt over 16 weeks.  Learn about selecting fabric, cutting and working in strips, and finally assembling and finishing your quilt. 

Tricia Cribbs Turning Twenty Quilt

Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Machine with 1/4" inch foot
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • 9 to 30 fat quarters (depending on what size you want to make), border fabric and matching thread
  • 6"x12" ruler and 6"x24" ruler

This fat-quarter quilt leaves barely any scraps behind and goes together very quickly. 20 fat quarters will make a quilt 70x86, use fewer fat quarters and make a smaller quilt if you like (or 30 fat quarters to make a 86” x 102” quilt)

  • May Saturday Workshops:
    - May 19 - Atkinson Designs Stand and Stow Grocery Tote, $15 plus pattern, fabric and interfacing
  • Quilt Workshops - All May quilt workshops are appropriate for all skill levels.  These are all appropriate for fat quarters. 
    - May 9 and 16 (2 session class) 2:00 to 4:00 - Atkinson Designs Yellow Brick Road - this is a great easy quilt, beginners love it because it is easy, and experienced quilters love it because it goes together fast, a great break from more complicated  projects.
      $20 plus pattern and fabric.  6 fat quarters plus borders make a crib size, 12 will do a lap quilt, if you have 40 fat quarters go ahead and make a king size quilt.
    - May 11 10:00 - 4:00 - Disappearing 9-Patch.  This classic beginner quilt block becomes more when you cut it up and mix it up to put back together.  This is an all day class. $30 plus fabric.  10 fat quarters make a good sized crib quilt.
    - May 25 10:00 - 5:00 - Turning Twenty by Tricia Cribbs.   • Wednesdays and Fridays- Open sewing time, share your projects, coffee, baked goods and quilting tips in our classroom.  Every Wednesday from 10:00am to 1:00pm or until everyone has left and every other Friday  starting at 2:00 until close.

Disappearing 9-Patch Quilt

  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • 9 to 36 fat quarters (depending on what size you want to make), border fabric and matching thread
  • 6"x12" ruler and 6"x24" ruler

This classic twist on a standard block lets you use focus fabrics in new ways, without cutting them up. This is a great project for charm packs as well.

Select at least 4 (or more) focus fabric fat quarters (or 1 yard of a single fabric), at least 8 coordinating fat quarters and a center block fabric fat quarter (or more than 1) for the small accent squares. 


Atkinson Designs Yellow Brick Road Quilt

Schedule:
Date: May 9 and 16 (This is a 2 session class, you will need to attend both)
Time: 2:00-4:00
Fees:  $20 plus pattern and supplies

Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Machine with 1/4" inch foot
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • 7 to 40 fat quarters (depending on what size you want to make and matching thread
  • 6"x12" ruler and 6"x24" ruler

This simple strip-pieced fat quarter quilt is great for charity quilts, beginner quilters, or anyone who wants to make a quick and easy quilt. Choose from sizes crib through King. We will do this class in 2 meetings. That should give plenty of time to complete a small quilt, or get a good start on a larger one.

4-Star Table Runner Workshop

Make a 3 or 4 patch table runner using a modified Ohio Star block.  Class participants will practice 4 patch, half square triangle and quarter square triangle assembly in this small quilt.

Schedule: April 14 from 1:00 to 5:00
Cost: $15
Instructor: Ann Dunn

Supplies Required:
Working Sewing machine
General Sewing tools (pins, seam ripper, scissors)
Rotary cutter, mat and ruler (6"x12" or 6"x24")
Fabric - 1/2 yards each a light, and dark, 1/3 yard accent, 5/8 yard border and sashing and 1/4 yard binding.   You can make each star different and use fat quarters for the medium, dark and accent fabrics.

Learn to Sew for Beginners

Students in this class will learn the basic sewing skills needed complete a chef's apron through the 4 sessions. Certified Sewing Instructor Connie Hamilton will lead this class using the Palmer/Pletsch curriculum. Students will complete the class understanding basic garment construction, pockets, hems, straps and finishing techniques.

Schedule: April 5, 19, 26 and May 3 from 7:00 p.m. To 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $75.00 plus supplies and the pattern

Supplies Required:
  • A working sewing machine (we will have 2 loaners available in the classroom), new needle for the sewing machine, and bobbins
  • Basic sewing supplies including scissors, seam ripper, and dressmaker pins
  • Fabric and thread as required by the pattern. Fabric will be purchased during the first class session.

Learn to Twist

Schedule: March 24
Time:Session 1 - 1:00PM to 4:00PM
Class Fee: $15 plus cost of supplies and any necessary tools
Skill Level: Beginner/Advanced Beginner

Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Machine with 1/4" inch foot
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • L'il Twister template
  • A charm pack or 20-40 contrasting 5" squares plus 1/3 yard background fabric

Learn to use the Twister Tool from Country Schoolhouse to make a placemat or tablerunner.

Learn to Hand Quilt

Schedule: March 7, 14, 21, 28
Time:Session 1 - 2:00PM to 3:00PM
Class Fee: $50 plus cost of supplies and any necessary tools
Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

Instructor: Lynne Shaw

Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Thimble (test some on the first day if you do not already have one)
  • Quilting needles (make your selection after discussion of options)

This class will meet every Wednesday in March at 2:00. Participants will learn basic skills needed to hand quilt finished quilt tops. Practice fabrics will be supplied as part of the class and participants will have the opportunity to try different quilt hoop styles. Participants will be required to bring or purchase quilting needles  and a thimble after learning about the different options.


Make An Apron

Schedule: March 10
Time:Session 1 - 1:00PM to 4:00PM
Class Fee: $15 plus cost of supplies and any necessary tools
Skill Level: Beginner/Advanced Beginner

Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Machine with 1/4" inch foot
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • 1 yard main fabric plus coordinating fat quarter for pocket
Take a break from quilting or learn basic skills and tips for creating a chef's style apron. Participants will need to supply fabric and bring their sewing machine and basic sewing tools. We have wonderful fabric for aprons.  We will provide the pattern.

Introduction to Log Cabin

Schedule: March 3
Time:Session 1 - 1:00PM to 4:00PM
Class Fee: $15 plus cost of supplies and any necessary tools
Skill Level: Beginner/Advanced Beginner


Supplies Required:
  • Sewing Machine with 1/4" inch foot
  • Sewing Tools - pins, needles, tape measure, scissors
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • 1-3 Fat quarters light fabrics and 1-3 fat quarters dark fabrics.  Small amount of red fabric for center block
  • Marti Michell Log Cabin Ruler (we carry 3 different sizes, you can choose which size you wish to use).

Learn to us Marti Michell's log cabin rulers to make precise log cabin blocks.  Participants will need to supply fabric and bring their sewing machine and basic quilting tools.

Introduction to Paper Piecing

Use Carol Doaks paper piecing method to create blocks that look like complicated math must be involved (it's ok, no math is required).  We will be making a hot pad made up of 4 paper pieced blocks.  Paper piecing is not something to be feared.

Schedule: February 18, 2012
Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Class Fee:  $15.00 plus materials (we will provide the Insul-bright batting for this project)
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
Supplies:
  • 1 fat quarter or equivalent of background fabric
  • 1 fat quarter or large scraps (12"x12") each of a focus fabric and 2 coordinating fabrics
  • Sewing machine, thread and your regular sewing tools
  • Rotary Cutter, mat and ruler

Zippy Strippy Bag

Use the Atkinson Designs pattern to create a quilted, zipper cosmetic style bag.  It is a great bag for carrying quilting tools, cosmetics, pencils - the list goes on.

Log Cabins in the Round

Use the log cabin block to make beautiful curved blocks

Schedule: February 4, 2012

Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Class Fee:  $15.00 plus cost of book
Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced Beginner
Supplies:
  • 1-2 fat quarters each of light and dark fabric. 
  • Sewing machine, thread and your regular sewing tools
  • Rotary Cutter, mat and ruler (You may want to use the Marti Michell log cabin ruler)

_Nifty 9-Patch Sampler CLASS IS FULL

_Every other Thursday starting January 26 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm

Participants pay $25 to join the group and will take home fabric and patterns for 2 of the 14 blocks at the first session. (A $35 value) Each following session participants need to bring in their finished blocks to receive the fabric and pattern for the next 2 blocks. A participant who misses a session will need to pay $15 to rejoin for the remainder of the blocks.  Each session will include an overview of the next blocks and information on tools and techniques. 

The initial cost will cover the cost of all fabric and instructions for the 14 main blocks. A finish kit will be available with fabric for the sashing, setting triangles and borders. The blocks will be offered in 2 colors (black and white or blues)

_Cut the Scraps Scrap Therapy – Starts January 17, 2012 CLASS IS FULL

_3 hour session meets the third Tuesday of each month from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. 
First session January 7 – this is an important cutting review session
$20 Fee includes the first storage bin
Cut the Scraps Scraptherapy by Joan Ford book is required

Follow the program developed by Joan Ford to reduce your scraps into usable pieces and work through projects designed to use them all up. Swap with others in the group and just have a good time working through all those pieces you have been saving for someday
